random friday facts

1. I eat my cereal dry.  Milk, ugh. 2. In big meetings that I am not running, I'd rather listen than talk.   3. I never buy expensive sunglasses because I tend to lose/sit on/drop/destroy them.   4. My hair is really thin and falls out/breaks easily.  I hate that. 5.  I sometimes don't follow recipes very closely because I don't want to get another measuring spoon/cup dirty.  This occasionally ends in disaster. 6. There is only one closet in my house, and it's the size of a linen closet.  I have bad closet karma.  My whole life, I've either had no closet at all, a closet in a different room, or a tiny half-closet. 7. I like to surprise people. 8.  I was blonde until I was 27.  Then I started dying my hair dark.  I think I look much better now, but all my shirts started looking weird. 9. My favorite piece of clothing is a pair of jeans I bought a few years ago.  They only fit me when I am thin(ner), and they are super-so...

three things thursday

1. In the past week, there have been 2 creepy instances of scary men knocking repeatedly on my door - once at 1am.  The Alexandria police are probably getting tired of my house.  Look, people, I have a big scary dog who will LICK YOUR FACE OFF, so just watch out. 2. I COOKED EGGS!  I don't like eggs, but several times in the past few months, someone has purchased a dozen eggs with the idea of using 1 to make brownies, and there are 4 dozen eggs in my fridge.  So I decided the poet was getting eggs for dinner.  (Sorry about the bad cell phone pictures). I made peppers and onions from leftovers. He very convincingly pretended to like it, and I got 5 eggs out of my fridge.  Win! 3. I took 2 entire days off after the tri, mostly due to the traveling I was doing, and it felt great to get back in the gym yesterday.  I quit lifting for the week before the tri, and my muscles were happy to have that back.  I never thought I'd be the kind of person ...

giveaway wednesday!

I'm super excited about my first giveaway: t he sweet folks over at Ryder's sent me some fancy-pants sunglasses!  Take a look at their website - they have some pretty awesome gear. I was able to try out a pair of these over the weekend at the tri: I'm cooler in shades, yo. These shades were actually pretty great - they didn't fog up in the heat, even as I sweated and dumped water on my head, and they stayed put under my bicycle helmet (even when I wiped out).  They have little grippers on the nose and above the ears, which helped them stay put.  I'm a big fan!  I usually don't run or ride in sunglasses, but I'm going to now. Now the good stuff: they sent me two pairs to give away to you guys!  Awesome sauces! I'll keep it simple....but with a twist. The simple: Become a follower or tell me that you are and why YOU are awesome!  Leave a comment! The twist: if you have left more than 5 comments on my blog in its lifetime (before 9am this morning),...

road trip!!!

So, after I was done swimming, biking and running on Sunday, I hopped in Julie's car with her to "help" move her down to Atlanta for the summer.  I would not recommend this as a recovery strategy.  I felt fine in the car, but the first time we stopped, and I had to stand up....wow.  Cranky.  We made it to Charlotte, NC that night, and stayed with her friend Haley in her fancy new apartment.  The next morning, I creaked and whined out of bed and back into the car.   Our first sign of the south: giant fruit that looks like a butt. We stopped at Abbotts Farm Outlet along the way to try some delicious yummies.  The store was full of southern treats, like boiled peanuts, pickled okra, and all kinds of preserves.   yummmmm. apparently blackberries are evil. We hit Atlanta mid-afternoon, and I spent several hours walking the ATL airport trying to get a flight out.  I ended up staying another night in Atlanta, and am now working from a happy ...
