three things thursday

1. I had to work last night, so I brought up a day's worth of stuff and then ran in this morning.  BRRRR.  That wind is no joke.  My eyes watered like crazy and then froze to my face.  Le sauces of awesome.  However, it means I knocked out 8 miles for this week's "long run," and now can race the 5K and then happily stuff my face with breakfast, guilt-free.  But I'm really nervous about how my body is going to react to working a full day after a long run instead of climbing back under the electric blanket for 2 hours. 2. There was a dusting of snow last night and half the school systems closed.  I am so over winter. 3. I found a double century this June.  Is that insane?  It's an out-and-back, and they require a 18-22 average to not be SAG'd off the course.  It'd be a seriously awesome challenge, and I'm really thinking about doing it.  On a scale of 1 to wacko, how crazy?

All three of my best girls are going to be in town the last weekend of February. It's the greatest worst idea ever.

it’s a girl! A few weeks ago, I posted about my love affair with the bicycle .  I was trying to decide whether I needed a new road bike or a triathlon bike, based on the types of rides and places I was going to be cycling this year.  My good friend Joe took me out to Bonzai Sports , where I got the chance to drool over the shiny gorgeous triathlon bikes.  Two of the bikes I had been considering based on my online research were there (Cervelo P2 and Felt B14), and boy, did I want to bring one home.  I had a very informative talk with one of their sales guys, who was completely awesome and didn’t make fun of me for not really knowing a lot about bikes, but based on our conversation, I started thinking that I would probably want to upgrade my road bike first and then add the triathlon bike later if I decided I still wanted it.  But even though I am not buying a bike from them right now, I’d go back there in a heartbeat - and probably will, for other triathlon gear ...

week 3: knocked it just about outta the park

Also known as, the week in which my body is finally starting to settle down.   I don’t actually have a lot of snarky comments about this week because everything really rolled right along.  My PT approved 15 minutes of swimming, which I did with very little repercussion.  My pulled intercostal, I think, is healed or healing, and my tight lat/shoulder connector thinger is calming down.  I admittedly have been terrible about foam rolling this week, which will probably bite me in the ass at this afternoon’s PT beating, but I’ve still been consistently icing.  Even though this was a step back week on the schedule, my mileage was a slight step up because I took two rest days last week while being cranky sick.  I did my first interval workout this week, 4x800, the intention of which was to run comfortably hard and set a baseline for this training cycle.  Check.  I had another confidence-boosting tempo workout this week, running a 2x2 miles tempo and seei...
