three things thursday

1. I RAN!  Magical Egyptian man said yes, and it was good.  I ran 1 minute.  Twice.  Oh HELL yeah.  Sounds like a comeback to me!  I am cleared to walk 2 minutes, run 1 minute for the total distance of a mile, every other day.  With the disclaimer of PT's everywhere: if it hurts, effing stop. 2. I am FINALLY getting a bikini wax today for my vacation this weekend.  It's been a long 3 weeks.  Get out the weed-whacker and raise your LEGS IN PRAISE TO THE LAWWWWDDD! 3. Crashed my bike this morning at a complete stop.  The light changed, so I started to ride, but my riding buddy Joe said "oh a car" (WHICH WAS STOPPING AT THEIR RED LIGHT - but anyway) so I leaned hard right and boom - on the ground in the middle of Madison.  I've got a very bruised knee and a very bruised palm and a VERY bruised ego.  Good thing I've got all weekend in Miami to drown my sorrows. What are you doing this weekend?  Any exciting end-of-summer events? Don't forget to ent

august is wrapped!

I must say, I'm pretty happy to see hot, sweaty, humid August depart.  Let's take a look at how I did. August Goals Complete a metric century (100K = 62 miles). Full century - check! Another race.  It'd be nice if it was a 4- or 5-miler but I'm not picky.   PT laid down the law and there was a running embargo and IT WAS SAID. Keep pool running. Lots of pool running this month!  Love it! Try some veggies I've hated since I've been a kid.  Things change. Hmm - not so sure about this one.  I did eat mushrooms, but they were buried in chili so I'm not sure that counts. Break 40 running miles for the month.   Land - no; pool - yes. I finally got myself to a PT this month.  Despite the no-running, it was a really good idea.  I'm straightening out my shoulder issues - hopefully in a permanent fashion - and while I haven't been allowed to test out a run yet, this is the final attempt to put my IT band to rest.  My body has also finally adjusted to

giveaway tuesday!

It's time for another giveaway! CSN contacted me about doing a giftcard giveaway, and of course I said yes - what an awesome gift for one of you!  I'll be giving away a $60 giftcard.  CSN hosts a whole range of websites, where you can buy anything from a blender to  kitchen tables  to barbells.  Scoot over there and take a look at what they've got!   Now the really exciting part....how to enter!  I'm going to give you 3 awesome chances to win. 1. Become a follower or tell me that you are one AND ( I've shamelessly stolen this idea from another great mind ) ask me a question.  I'll answer ALL of the questions, so go freakin' nuts. 2. Go follow me on Twitter & tweet this giveaway.  Include "CSN stores" and @thisamazingday in your tweet so I can see it and give you credit.  Be creative! 3. Take a look at their site and let me know what you would buy with the giftcard.   I'll randomly choose a winner next week when I get back

injury update

I've been in PT for 2 weeks now - that's 2 weeks with NO RUNNING AT ALL, for those of you keeping track at home with notches on the bedpost.  No?  Only me?   The good news?  I already can tell that my shoulder has made a lot of progress.  I have long stretches of no pain at all, and when I do have pain, the intensity is much less.  Hopefully the adjustments I've made to my lifting program based on the PT exercises will continue to let my shoulder heal properly.  I swam 1000 yards on Saturday morning - 10x100, increasing speed on each one - and while my shoulder muscles felt very definitely fatigued at the end of this set, I had no pain.  I'm hoping to get in 2 swims of similar length/speed this week, probably around my hot pool running dates.  I think the key here is to do short stretches, to strengthen the little muscles in my shoulder and back that weren't being used for so long. As for my IT band, there's really no way to tell what that little bastard is do
