three things thursday

1. Completely ignore what I said yesterday about 2 dogs being a bad idea.  We recently discovered that Molly's sister is up for adoption. At first it sounded completely insane, but now we're seriously considering this.  Her name is Sofie.  My cranky little three-sizes-too-small heart just breaks at the thought of her needing some love, and the honesty of it is, we're lucky.  We have a home to live in and cars to drive and a basement full of bicycles and while we're pretty focused on paying off those darn student loans right now, we don't want for much and we have love to spare.  And I am grateful every day for all of these things.  So why not? 2. I'm only a couple of weeks into what I would describe as base building/training, but my body is starting to adapt.  I spent all of last week being ridiculously sore, but that has quieted down and now I've moved into the phase where I'm just extra exhausted all the time.  I'm almost too tired to eat, whic

On Monday, I took both dogs to the vet without any backup. Worst idea ever.

food log challenge

Fast forward a year.  As the distances get longer, nutrition becomes more and more important, both during exercise and after in recovery.  When I was in my last 70.3 training cycle, I was pretty careful most of the time (notice the absence of

I realized last night as I was going to sleep that this weekend is the first weekend in almost a month that I wasn't out racing.  I had a completely stressful week, so Friday night was an early one - dinner and "Friends" episodes and bed early.   Saturday brought a mixed bag of workouts - I'm still really motivated to swim by my awesome Christmas gear .  We're having a lot of work done on our house right now, so Saturday afternoon was full of hammering and sanding and spackle and paint.  Saturday night was round two of the most brilliant pizza I've made yet.  It goes a little something like this... Ingredients : 1 onion 1 butternut squash 1 eggplant 1 bag of walnuts 1 container of gorgonzola cheese some shredded mozzarella some other stuff (butter, oil, yeast, flour) This is a bit time-intensive, but I've found that if I do the process in the right order, I'm not standing around waiting for the onions to caramelize while the squash is gett
