three things thursday

1. I'm still sick.  Big time sick.  Coughing up large green chunks of my lungs sick.  And the half is less than 48 hours away.  I've started considering the possibility of not running this weekend and running the half at Philly next weekend, which is not AT ALL what I want to do since the poet is running the full.  But I'll be there, and I might be in better condition to pound out the 1:47-2:03 you guys think I can do .  Or I can just freaking suck it up and go after Richmond.  Mentally, I am SO ready to run this race.  But I'll have to put a sign on my back that says "snot rockets ahoy, please keep left."  If I go after Richmond and fail miserably because of how sick I am, I definitely won't be recovered enough by next Sunday to try again at Philly, and I'd really hate to end this season on a big fat race flop.  What would you do? 2. The good news about being sick is that laying in bed for two days is that all my little niggles have healed.  My sh

So, this is happening. If you want to go adjust your finishing time guesses for a massive respiratory infection (+time) and DayQuil (-time due to heart palpitations and general over-tapered jittery-ness), please feel free.  Sigh.

gait checkup

Yesterday I went back to Active Spine and Sport yesterday for my 3ish-month gait checkup.  At the first appointment , Dr. Maggs identified a few issues in my gait that I've been working hard to resolve - the biggest one was the "tightrope" running, but also some pelvic instability and glute inactivity that was contributing to the hot mess I've been rocking my whole life as a runner.  Since that time, I've spent almost 100% of my time running concentrating on the way I land (not running on a tightrope), keeping my hips forward and my pelvis tucked under and my shoulders back and down.  I've also been continuing with my booty-busting glute and hip strength program, plus doing all of the crazy drills and exercises he prescribed to hopefully send things in the right direction.   I feel like I've made a ton of progress over the past 6 months.  However, as I've ramped up my running the past few months, there have been some small twinges and nags that I wa

Otherwise known as, "someone else try and figure out what I can do at Richmond." Here's the thing.  I need to have some kind of time goal in my head only so that I can figure out where to pace the first few miles.  I'd rather have a conservative goal and bust it in the chops than the other way around.  But with a 3-week training cycle right on the heels of really effed-up HR training cycle to a 70.3, I have absolutely no idea what I can do.  So let's play a game.  I'm going to lay out a bunch of information and you guys guess my finishing time.  Whoever is closest will win something.  If you're here, I'll buy you a coffee/beer/bottle of wine/lunch.  If you're far away, I'll mail you a present.  It can still be beer or coffee, or it can be Gu or sunglasses or something reasonable that you can choose.  Ready?  Here are the facts. My resting HR is 42 .  My max HR is 176 (this is without having a correct max HR test - I reached this HR at th
