MCM: spectator report & weekly wrap

Image
I woke up early (but not as early as the runners) and got everything ready for spectating!   Liz's main man , Wes, picked me up and we parked in Clarendon and met Lauren to ride around and cheer everyone on our bikes.  Our first stop was the Key Bridge.  We rode down Wilson and got settled.  Boy, was it chilly riding down the hill, and windy on the bridge!   shot from the bridge   the fabulous (and cold) spectators! I rubbed the warm tea all over my face instead of drinking it. Pretty sure they drank their drinks. We bumped into Cheryl on the bridge who was picture-taking like a champ.  It was really exciting to be spectating at this point of the race - there was a party going on at the corner in Georgetown, and tons of spectators, and the runners were really pumped up as well.  We saw the CAR girls come through - Liz , Beth , and Amy - and they looked great!  There were a ton of runners in costume (we saw Super Mario & Luigi at least a dozen times).  After that, we walked

october is the greatest month of the year

Well, this will be a short post: October Goals Run. Nope.  Not yet.  Or rather, I ran about 25 seconds before hitting stop on the treadmill.  And I'm totally okay with that, and with where I am.  I made some huge strides this month.  I spent more time in the pool than I maybe have in my entire life, cumulative.  I got back on the bike , and oh wow, did that help to fill a gaping hole in my life.  But exercise aside, October has been a month where I really get to appreciate how full my life is, and how lucky I am.  It started with a wonderful birthday , followed immediately by an overwhelming and terrifying surprise .  But it opened up many great and deep conversations about what we want out of life, which we might not have had otherwise.   We celebrated Graham's first birthday , and I am thankful every day that I decided to take home the puppy that bit my finger instead of the one that licked my knee.   I got to return to IU, one of my favorite places on earth, and had a pe

This is a blog about running, right? 1. Like I said, cleared to run.  I only ran 10-20 seconds before having to stop, and my IT has been swollen, sore, and inflamed ever since.  I think I'm going to give it another week (next Tuesday) and try again.  I am not upset about this at all.  It's part of recovery.  And to be honest, I'm not really looking forward to the first week or two back, where I can only run 1/2 mile at a time and my HR is maxed out and it takes me 6 minutes and my heart feels like it is going to explode. 2. Today is 6 weeks exactly since surgery.  Even looking down a long slow comeback, I know I made the right decision. 3. Today is the poet's birthday!  Happy Birthday to a great man.  There is no one I'd rather be walking next to.
