for the weight of us

I’ve read some interesting blogs lately about weight and weight loss and perception.  I don’t talk about my weight or weight loss, really, because it’s not my focus, not when there are puppies to take pictures of all over my house.  But what is? When I started this blog, it was about running.  About 6 posts in, I got injured (of course), so it became about running as related to injury and then gradually became about the cross-training I was doing as related to injury and then morphed into triathlon training because that’s really what I was doing all along.  Now, I’ve been injured a few times before, and each time, instead of fighting through it with cross-training, I’ve ended up giving up and sitting on my couch for months eating cheetos and complaining, which I talked about here .  I believe that the reason I didn’t give up this time had a lot to do with this blog, and the community of runners and triathletes that I found myself sitting in the middle of once I...

1. My “not showering” confession seems to have kicked off a “who is more disgusting” contest throughout the blogworld, twitter, etc.  I’m glad to know that there are lots of stinky people like me out there, but, come on now.  You’ll never be as gross as I am.  I’m a Wednesday-Sunday showerer.  As in, I shower Wednesday because that’s the day I go downtown, and then I shower Sunday because I usually can’t remember the last time I showered by then. See?  Showered yesterday! 2. The temps went up yesterday, so I took full advantage of it and went outside for a ride.  I got out early enough before the sun went down that I hoped to be able to get 30-40 miles in, but I did not account for the 2347mph winds that attacked southern DC/northern VA yesterday afternoon.  I’m not sure I’ve ever ridden in wind that bad.  There were quite a few very deep washouts on the MV trail that I had to coast through, and both little bridges near the airport were still cove...

I spent a while looking through photos, trying to figure out what to post, and really came up with nothing.  I'm all lame in February.   Sorry.  Right now my life is basically this: this: none of this: some of this: a lot of this: and desperately missing this: I'll try and cook something delicious or go somewhere interesting this weekend.  Invite me over, I'll get drunk on your booze and make snarky MST3K-type comments for the duration of the Super Bowl, I'm a perfect guest.  Also, I might have had a cupcake relapse.

january: a lesson in taunting the universe

January was a vicious cycle of me saying, "Neener neener boo boo" to the universe and the universe whapping me across the face.  Well then. January Goals Go easy on yourself at the beginning of this training cycle.  Remember to breathe. I think I can actually call this a success.  In that, I have not injured myself. Only make lasagna once. Okay, twice. Just once! Swim at least once a week. I was doing great until I pulled my intercostal. Pool run at least once a week. I actually did it twice a week until last week's snow/sick out. Try & cook the spaghetti squash. Dang it, I totally forgot about this one. Break 100 running miles for the month.  One missed workout + two missed pool runs from being sick left me just a bit short.  And I am okay with that. So on paper, January, not so much a success.  However, I feel like I had a solid month.  True, I added another injury onto the pile, but I was in PT within the day for it, and it's healing.  ...
