weekend in Miami: vacation report

Image
Whew! Friday night we ate at Gloria Estefan's restaurant: Lario's On The Beach .  Amazing cuban food.  We bought drink cups at our hotel, which gave us $6 pina coladas & daiquiris for the duration of our stay (instead of the $12-$18 they were everywhere else - Miami Beach is EXPENSIVE!).   out for dinner!   my vacation purse, which I love Saturday we went parasailing, ate lunch at the delicious News Cafe , spent some time relaxing on the beach, and had dinner at maybe one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to, Spiga .   on our way to parasailing   view from the beach   off to dinner lava cake Sunday we went to the World Erotic Art Museum  (I tried to post only the PG pics - you know, for the kids), ate lunch at the super-zany Mango's , lazed around reading by the pool, and went to Prime 112 - an organic steakhouse with the largest portions I've ever seen.   OH MY!   the royal throne   our fancy dinner night An...

random friday facts

1. I might have said this before, but I HATE SHOPPING. 2. I am afraid of flying.  Actually, I am afraid of taking off & landing.  In 2006, I was flying from Boston to DC for Labor Day weekend.  There was some hurricane going on, so we couldn't land, but instead circled for 2 hours.  Then the captain came over the loudspeaker and said something that basically went, "We have to land here and now or we won't be heavy enough to land, and it's really going to suck but you probably won't die."  The plane was rocking side-to-side almost 90ยบ.  People were screaming and puking and saying the Hail Mary and I honestly thought my ticket was up.  The worst part was, we landed at Reagan, which is surrounded by protected airspace, so the descent is really steep on a normal day.  So bad.  For about 2 years after that, I had to get pretty drunk before I would get on a plane.  I still don't like it. 3. I think I have been successful in teaching ...

three things thursday

1. I RAN!  Magical Egyptian man said yes, and it was good.  I ran 1 minute.  Twice.  Oh HELL yeah.  Sounds like a comeback to me!  I am cleared to walk 2 minutes, run 1 minute for the total distance of a mile, every other day.  With the disclaimer of PT's everywhere: if it hurts, effing stop. 2. I am FINALLY getting a bikini wax today for my vacation this weekend.  It's been a long 3 weeks.  Get out the weed-whacker and raise your LEGS IN PRAISE TO THE LAWWWWDDD! 3. Crashed my bike this morning at a complete stop.  The light changed, so I started to ride, but my riding buddy Joe said "oh a car" (WHICH WAS STOPPING AT THEIR RED LIGHT - but anyway) so I leaned hard right and boom - on the ground in the middle of Madison.  I've got a very bruised knee and a very bruised palm and a VERY bruised ego.  Good thing I've got all weekend in Miami to drown my sorrows. What are you doing this weekend?  Any exciting end-of-sum...

august is wrapped!

I must say, I'm pretty happy to see hot, sweaty, humid August depart.  Let's take a look at how I did. August Goals Complete a metric century (100K = 62 miles). Full century - check! Another race.  It'd be nice if it was a 4- or 5-miler but I'm not picky.   PT laid down the law and there was a running embargo and IT WAS SAID. Keep pool running. Lots of pool running this month!  Love it! Try some veggies I've hated since I've been a kid.  Things change. Hmm - not so sure about this one.  I did eat mushrooms, but they were buried in chili so I'm not sure that counts. Break 40 running miles for the month.   Land - no; pool - yes. I finally got myself to a PT this month.  Despite the no-running, it was a really good idea.  I'm straightening out my shoulder issues - hopefully in a permanent fashion - and while I haven't been allowed to test out a run yet, this is the final attempt to put my IT band to rest.  My body has also finall...
