three things thursday

1. I ran FOURRRRR miles yesterday.  Several things of note.  This is a post IT-band fiasco PR for distance (in English: the longest run I've had since March).  Running this far on a treadmill sucks a big fatty.  I ended up messing with the incline and speed the last mile because I was bored.  Next, my IT band didn't hurt the entire time.  DID Y'ALL HEAR THAT?!?!??  Did.  NOT.  HURT.  But my hip flexors were tight when I hopped off.  Bastards.  So I had a foam roller session last night that probably made my neighbors think we were filming a porno in the living room.  Also, I'm pretty sure this is faster than my actual 4-mile PR.  Yes, I'm slow, shut yer trap. Total: 4 miles/35:43/avg. pace 8:54 2. Still haven't managed to break the eating-ice-cream-every-day habit, except for Tuesday, because after the hill workout there was no way anything that went down wasn't coming right back up, and I'm not going to waste ic...

mostly wordless wednesday: attack of the cuteness

Nice lady , I would like another treat, please.   I have chosen this toy.   Zonked from the PR .    Boy roommates = stuff left laying all over the floor.   Nap with the mama.   Before my horrible haircut . snuggles.

somehow, july is over

July FLEW by!  Good grief!  Let's take a look at those goals..... July Goals Itty Bitty Teeny McTiny Tri Goal: finish.  That, at least, should be a slam-dunk, but I don't want to speak too soon, so I'll say, squeee, wish me luck!   Not only did I finish, I put the hammer down on the bike ride and didn't die during the run. Run a 5K.  Be healthy.  Keep in mind these are not mutually exclusive.   Ran 2, including a new PR! Break the 50-mile long ride mark.   I didn't break it during July, but August 1st brought a 54-mile ride. Keep dragging friends out for bike rides.  I enjoy this so so much.   Did a LOT of riding with friends this month.  Love it. Continue to experiment with both cooking and my diet.   Done & done! I'm still making small strides on the running, but this durned IT band is really preventing me from making the progress I'd like to see. I did 3 races this month, a tri and 2 5K's, and I was so ha...

Happy August, everyone!  Thanks for all your great comments over the last few days - the warm & fuzzy props for my PR ( I PR'D!!! did you know? ) were awesome, and the fuel comments gave me a lot of food for thought (HA HA!  I kill me.) about my own nutrition while working out.  I've been struggling with nutrition on rides over 2 hours.   Yesterday I got up for a long ride, and decided to mix up my on-ride fuel with some real food.  I packed shot blocks, Gu chomps, a Luna protein bar, a banana, some small hard pretzels, and some almonds on my bike and my person.  At the 1-hour mark, I stopped and ate the entire packet of chomps (minus one I gave away) - roughly 175 calories.  At the 2-hour mark, I had the protein bar - 180 calories.  At the 3-hour mark, I just ate the banana (only had 8-10 miles to go) - roughly 90 calories.  I also consumed 2 bottles of nuun and 2 bottles of water throughout.  When I walked in the door, I ate the...
