so much to talk about!!

Image
I am exploding with stuff to tell you all!  Some of it will have to wait, though.... I had a GREAT July 4th weekend!   Friday evening we started off the weekend by going to Fireflies , a local restaurant.  I'd been there before for brunch, but had never sampled their dinner menu.  We decided to enjoy the lovely cool temps and eat outside.  I don't remember exactly what I ordered, but it was some kind of pasta/pesto dish, and I got a side of sauteed spinach, and it was ridiculously delicious.    They will definitely be going into the monthly dinner rotation - I can't wait to go back! Saturday morning we got up and headed up to DC for a morning ride.  It was cool enough for the first hour or so that I got chills - I'm pretty sad that those temps seem to have headed out for now.  We looped around Haines Point, rounded the monuments, and headed back home for an easy 25 miles. Haines Point is gorgeous in the morning. Stopped at WWII Memoria...

june as a wrap

Let us sit down and see how June went.... June Goals Buy the bike.  Ride it a lot.  Hopefully with people.  Don't die.   Check, check, check and check! Work my way back up to 2500-3500 yards in the pool, including that nasty 1000-yard sprint set.   Done & done.  I've only done the nasty set once, but the 500-yard sprint set is a regular. Buy and then cook tofu.  Don't be scared.   A huge success!   Run a race.  Even if it takes twice as long as my PR at that distance because I have to walk every 4 minutes.   Nope, still haven't gotten this one done.  But next weekend brings a race.... Keep working on my abs.  They're in there somewhere.   They are still....in there somewhere.  Holiday weekend eating isn't helping. Keep adding variety to my workouts.   I spent a lot of time this month thinking about & changing up my workouts, especially via exploring DC on a bicycle. As far ...

random friday facts

1. Not random: another successful test run this morning. Total: 2.5/22:00/avg. pace 8:48 2. I gave up caffeine a few years ago.  Now when I drink it, it gives me heart palpitations and I can't sleep for days. 3. I don't mind the way my feet look when they're all beat up from running. 4. One of the first things I learned how to cook was my mom's homemade pizza recipe.  It includes making the dough from scratch.  I still make it pretty often. 5. Sometimes I feel like my friends take advantage of me, or maybe just don't know how much I appreciate them.  Usually this isn't a bad thing. 6. I never wear a watch. 7. Business school has been a lot of work, but I don't feel like the work has been that challenging (with a few exceptions: econ).   8. I am a "salt" person, not a "sugar" person. 9. I say, "I'm sorry" and "thank you" a lot.  Probably from a childhood where I was told I never said either ...

three things thursday

1. It was actually really nice to go into work yesterday and see all the people I do conference calls with in my jammies.  It reminds me that I really, really like my job.  Not enough to want to take showers and get dressed up every day, though.  Don't be ridiculous. 2. Another good test run yesterday.  I don't feel like I'm out of the woods yet, but I'm getting there.  I'm still doing treadmill only runs (can't WAIT to get back outside), so I know I'm not working as hard as I'd be outside, gasping and swimming my way down the street, but this pace feels easy.  I like it. Total: 2.25/20:00/avg. pace 8:53 3. My running/swimming/and most recently biking buddy is moving to Denver today.  I don't want to talk about it. p.s.  I know it's July, someone told me.  I probably won't get to the wrap-up until next week.  You're sad, I know.
